This original 1983 twin-single release of U2's iconic anthem "New Year's Day" offers a brilliant collector piece in its scarce double-pack format. Published under catalogue number UWIP 6848, this British 7-inch package features two vinyl discs adorned with Island Records' striking orange and blue palm tree design, complete with a 4-pronged push-out centre configuration. To complete the authentic packaging, both singles are safely nested inside their original custom die-cut black paper inner sleeves that proudly display the white Island script logo.

The dead wax across all four sides reveals earliest production stampers, displaying the definitive matrix sequences WIP 68481 A-1U / WIP 68481 B-1U on the primary record, and WIP 68482 A-1U / WIP 68482 B-2U on the bonus disc. The primary disc delivers the studio cut of "New Year's Day" - explicitly flagged on the label as being taken from the then-forthcoming album "War" (ILPS 9733) - backed with "Treasure (Whatever Happened To Pete The Chop)". The second record acts as a fantastic live document, featuring concert versions of "Fire" and a medley of "I Threw A Brick Through A Window/A Day Without Me". These tracks were captured live in Werchter, Belgium, in July 1982 by I.D. TV and Film Productions, Amsterdam, produced by Harry De Winter for the soundtrack to the official "U2 Live at Werchter" television special.

The condition of this double pack is graded at VG/EX. The main card picture sleeve is clean with intact seams, but shows some obvious creasing around the opening corners due to handling, while the delicate black inner housings show mild creasing. Crucially, both vinyl discs are preserved in magnificent, excellent condition, boasting highly polished, clean surfaces that promise a fantastic sound reproduction. This is a vital acquisition for anyone looking to complete their early-80s rock archives.
