Born in the gritty, high-energy scene of Derry in 1978, The Moondogs were Northern Ireland's answer to the infectious collision of punk and power pop. Their debut single, released in November 1979 on the legendary Good Vibrations Records, stands as a definitive snapshot of teenage rebellion and melodic fuzz.

The A-side, "Ya Don't Do Ya", is a masterclass in the power pop genre—blending sharp guitar hooks with a defiant, DIY spirit. It perfectly encapsulates the band's signature style before their move to New York and their eventual, tragic split during a recording session with Todd Rundgren. While the band eventually signed to Sire Records and even briefly hosted their own television show, Moondogs Matinee, this debut single remains their most potent statement.

Flip the vinyl for "She’s Nineteen", a frantic, high-bpm anthem of youthful frustration. It avoids the dark brooding of their post-punk peers, opting instead for the punchy, "danceable" energy of a band that once shared stages with The Undertones. It’s a track defined by its melodicism and raw, driving rhythm, capturing the universal angst of teenage love with a distinctive Derry snarl. For fans of the "Shellshock Rock" era, this single isn't just a record; it’s a high-octane artefact of Northern Irish musical history.
