Offered here is an exceptionally rare UK first pressing of the self-titled debut from Rare Bird, released in 1969. This is the definitive "Pink Scroll" edition, featuring the earliest Charisma label design that was only in use for a very short period. For the serious progressive rock historian, this LP is a foundation piece, notably being CAS 1005 - one of the earliest entries in the label's storied catalogue.
This copy is identified by the authentic A/B2 matrix stamps (CAS+1005+A and CAS+1005+B2), ensuring the original 1960s soundstage. Rare Bird's unique dual-keyboard setup, sans guitars, is captured here with the atmospheric depth and heavy Hammond organ tones that define the early British prog scene.
The record is housed in its original front-laminated picture sleeve. While the front presents handsomely with its vibrant gloss, there is some characteristic laminate creasing at the bottom corners. The unlaminated reverse shows signs of its age with surface wear and two small tears, but it remains a solid, genuine example of this fragile 1969 packaging. The vinyl itself is in Excellent condition, retaining a superb shine and deep black lustre. Aside from a couple of light surface marks, the playback remains crisp and powerful, typical of these heavy-duty early Charisma pressings.
A must-have for fans of the "Big Hat" era and early UK underground rock, this Pink Scroll original is an increasingly difficult find in such clean musical condition.
