LP Vinyl Records For Sale

LP vinyl records came about in the 50's and 60's and big artists like Frank Sinatra and Jim Reeves were widely bought by the pop music fans.  However, in the late 60's and early 70's rock started to be a lot more experimental and some bands concentrated on the vinyl LP format.  This enabled groups like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Yes to extend the length of the songs from the tradition single format of up to 3 minutes to 7, 8, or even longer thus enabling them to express their songs and musical talent.  A good example of this is 'Stairway to Heaven'.  The more ground breaking experimental bands led to the term progressive rock.  These early progressive LP's are now hard to find and highly prized by collectors.  Nirvana were huge in the USA as were The Doors and early examples are rare and valuable.

At the same time as this was going on in the States, Motown were turning out volumes of LP's which became known as albums which concentrated on basically a collection of singles.  These included artists like Diana Ross and the Supremes, The Four Tops and The Temptations.  Later, artists like Steve Wonder became more expressive and demonstrated their songwriting talents.  Other major songwriters found that LP's gave them more scope for their songwriting talents and allowed them to write meaningful songs and not just singles material.  Good examples of this are Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel and in the UK, Kate Bush and Genesis.

Today as with 7 inch vinyl there is a revival for these quality LP records and some of the covers that were designed by Artist like Peter Blake and Andy Warhol are almost as sort after as the record itself, something you can't get from a download?

Planet Earth Records stock a wide range of LP's from the early days to the present from all genres of musical taste.
