When considering classical music we generally think of orchestras that played music by great composers such as Mozart, Johann Sebastian Strauss, Beethoven, Handel, Chopin and Vivaldi. Classical is a Western music origin, particularly through Europe from the 19th century, but it's origins can be traced back to 12th century.Classical music comes and goes in phases. In recent years Vivaldi's Four Seasons became extremely popular and albums were produced and sold in large quantities. This was mainly due to young violinist Nigel Kennedy. A television series in the UK about Johann Strauss featuring his waltzes was a huge success and the albums can be found on vinyl.
Holst's Planets Suite is a piece of music that sells well. In the 20th century, pieces of music were played by major orchestras such as the London Philharmonic. Opera falls into this genre and Gilbert and Sullivan's comic operas have shown staying power. The Pirates of Penzance being very funny and extremely popular.
