In 1982 a joint venture by Sony and Philips launch the first compact disc. This started a music revolution and has been the major medium for music right up to the present day. It has now been challenged by downloads in recent years. The CD is small and neat, still has artwork and artist information like the old vinyl records and plays anywhere. Major artists recording from the early 80's used this format and in the early years few copies were produced of some albums which have now become highly sort after.
The first music CD produced was The Visitors by Swedish band Abba. In the UK one of the best selling early CD albums was Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits. Planet Earth Records have a large stock of CD singles and albums.
